The Co-Op at 1st offers a variety of services to Denver and surrounding neighborhoods including food and energy assistance, an indoor market and a food subscription box. We decided to compile a list of our frequently asked questions so you can conveniently find all the answers you’re looking for!
What services do you offer?
The Co-Op at 1st is a multi-faceted business with a lot to offer! We have a food assistance program that accepts SNAP Benefits and Double Bucks as well as an Energy Assistance program. We also offer a year-round indoor farmer’s market with pre-made meals, or if you prefer not to shop you can take advantage of our My Food Box subscription. Other services include commercial kitchen and event space rental as well as neighborhood events.
What are SNAP Benefits and how do I qualify?
SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, previously known as the Food Stamp Program. SNAP eligibility is determined by a number of factors, including if you are an individual or a family, gross monthly income, net income and assets. If you are an adult without a dependent, there is a general 3 month time limit in most cases. Individuals with dependents and families can qualify for longer term assistance.
What are Double Bucks?
Double Bucks are offered through the state and they entail having your fruit and vegetable purchases matched when you use your EBT card. The Co-Op at 1st allows for Double Buck purchases up to a certain amount, and they will apply Double Bucks to all My Food Box subscriptions as well. If you qualify for SNAP benefits, shopping at a Double Up partner will help you get more bang for your buck!
What is Energy Assistance and how do I apply?
Energy Assistance is a program that we offer through a partnership with Energy Outreach Colorado. If you are at risk of having your electricity disconnected, we can help pay your overdue electric bill to make sure your lights stay on. This benefits is available once per year, per household and can cover up to $1,000 of relief.
What is an EBT card?
An EBT card looks like a credit card or bank card, and it allows you to use your SNAP Benefits and some cash assistance funds to be used electronically. It is also referred to as the Colorado Quest Card, and it’s only valid at stores that have the EBT or Quest Card logo.
What neighborhoods do you service?
Our Co-Op is located at 1st and Sheridan, and we service the greater Denver area. We are near Lakewood and Westwood as well, which makes us an accessible and easy option for just about anyone who needs our services!
What does the indoor market carry?
Our indoor market carries a variety of delicious produce, locally sourced grocery products and handmade goods from local artisans. You’ll be able to find fresh produce from local farms, dairy and eggs from local producers and plenty of self-care and home maintenance items. There is also a coffee shop where you can get a fresh cup of coffee or a latte while you shop.
Can I sell my products in your market?
If you are interested in selling your products in our market, please reach out to the team for more information. We have limited shelf space inside but want to accommodate as many vendors as possible!
Do you have space for rent?
Yes, we have multiple different spaces to rent including an events space, a fitness studio, offices and a commercial kitchen. We have parking available on the property for up to 35 vehicles as well as tables and chairs as needed. Our kitchen is intended for education and healthy food preparation so we have limited access to a grease disposal and therefore do not allow fried foods. Contact our team to learn more about our spaces and what makes sense based on your needs!
